rapfan08
After building my website around prestashop, the site might work for a couple hours/days then all of a sudden i receive a 403 forbidden error saying:You don't have permission to access / on this server. well im not sure if its permissions or the index or what.....it's kinda strange...there's nothing about the error in the error log, but the error: File does not exist: /home/rtvdcpiw/public_html/404.shtml does appear quite often
TropischBruin
What is your hoster saying about this or what do you see in you server-logs?
rapfan08
well the error logs are saying: [Fri Jan 16 00:12:15 2009] [error] [client 66.249.71.209] File does not exist: /home/mdywuity/public_html/404.shtml[Fri Jan 16 00:12:15 2009] [error] [client 66.249.71.209] File does not exist: /home/mdywuity/public_html/storestill waiting on reply from host, its vodahost by the way. I also have an account with netfirms and don't know if switching hosts would make a difference
rapfan08
also, during installation it highlighted the register_globals (red), which i assume means it's turned on.....could it possibly be that?
TropischBruin
Register_globals has nothing to do with your problem. So, it say's the file is not there....
msk69
i'd a 403 after they installed the ssl certificate, it had to do with apache2 in my case.
rapfan08
The ssl certificate on my site is disabled because it didn't seem to work with it on. Sorry but what exactly was your problem with apache2? and how were you able to fix it.Could it possibly be permissions i need to change?
rapfan08
any ideas on what the problem could be?
Skhilled
I think you should check you file/folder permissions. Your hosting can change them in a flash for you to the correct chmod. :-)
TropischBruin
Did you ever check you server-logs or contact you hoster?

dilz
I know this is an old post, but it's the first one I came across when searching for this error.I was getting the 403 Forbidden error when updating certain products. I checked all permissions etc. and everything was fine. Checked the error logs on the server and it was the antispam system blocking certain keywords in the product description (it was a supplement for horses that contained Glucosamine!!)Contacted host and they whitelisted site. All OK now.Hope this might help someone.
