Help: I need to hide the checkout button (on cart Block) once clicked

Hi guys! I would appreciate if anyone can help me with this (using PS 1.3.7)

I would like that once a client decides to checkout, the button on the Cart Block disspaears.

I had a lot of people telling me that when they click the Checkout, they wouldn't notice the "Next" button that appears in the main column. They would keep clicking on the Checkout button on the other column!. I know it's very silly, but people won't scroll down to see it :-S

Is there a way to do this?
