Is it possible to make an information  page and set it as the landing page for the shop? ie. the page which customers see when they first go to shop.  (version 1.7.6.8.

I'm not sure I understand. How would I do that? I want people to carry on using the shop. I just want to get some important information to customers before they order

I can't even find this module, but I'm not looking for a paid for module. It's only a very temporary bit of information I need to let customers know.

If you don't know anything about Web, shops, modules you might be better off to look for professional help. A landing page is something which needs to pinpoint a category at most.
