tzak902
Hello, I have a Prestashop store running 1.7.2.4 with many modules and tons of customizations. I noticed that latest Prestashop 1.7.8.2 and I was thinking to upgrade, you will ask me why would you like to upgrade, it's not because of any feature but because of the version of Symfony 2.8 what are the consequences of running an old symfony version in terms of security? Is it possible to upgrade symfony without the need of upgrading prestashop? If it is possible to upgrade prestashop, is there a way without loosing my customizations? All my concerns is keeping a secure store, vulnerable-free Please advice.
SmartDataSoft
@tzak902 First of all duplicate the site in a subfolder or subdomain then run your update and check what kind of problem you face, After solving that you can update. Do not run update in live site. Sometime some unwanted situation happen and your site will break. In each version of PrestaShop their are many changes in core, so only symfony update may break , if deprecated function called from PrestaShop Thank you
tzak902
Hello, Actually tried and found issues, I thought about another road. What would happen if I patched symfony 2.8 for security vulnerabilities in addition to prestashop known security issues without doing full upgrade? What do you think

El Patron
Hire an agency or someone that knows what they are doing. It's not just upgrade of ps but also your front end. As mentioned above and maybe ignored, creat a copy of your shop to test upgrade process.
