install folder error appears after 6 years of error free use / search reveals "no install folder found"

Recommended Posts

Adviser for GoDaddy reported Malware, contact GoDaddy to run a Malware removal scan. product hihomerealestate.com reported malware removed.

In the process the Tool Bar lost most of its links which requires access to the back office to fix.

On attempting to access the back-office brought up the following Prestashop error:

For security reasons, you cannot connect to the back-office until you have:
deleted the /install folder
Please then access this page by the new URL (e.g. https://hihomerealestate.com/admin****/)

Cpanel file Manager V3 search has not revealed any such "/install folder" on the system nor in the Themes folder

We believe the "install folder" item was removed during installation 6 years ago.

Your help would be deeply appreciated.

do you have backup?  you may want to consider falling back to see if you have copy pre hack

did you enable 'show hidden', this is easier to do with ftp program

in future consider this module which provides alerts for change/added/delete files on your system, only one like it for any website in the world

Dear El Patron, Global Moderators

I appreciate your response, deleted the /install folder does not exist.

Unfortunately, GoDaddy only keeps 2 months backup. Only after we realised the menu bar had changed did we interrogate the Back Office. Within this time we had no reason to suspect that our site was affected by the GoDaddy malware that anything had changed until we realised Go Daddy was hiding the truth:

https://www.forbes.com/sites/kellyclay/2012/09/10/5-reasons-you-should-leave-godaddy-and-how/?sh=4074fb0b6614

Here you can see the full menu (second in from the left) https://hihome.co.uk/

Compared now the available menu where there is only three items https://hihomerealestate.com/en/

This is the concerned Prestashop issue directly related to GoDaddy: For security reasons, you cannot connect to the back-office until you have:

deleted the /install folder.

Please then access this page by the new URL (e.g. https://hihomerealestate.com/admin**** etc

There is no such install folder in the GoDaddy hosting public_folder domain

I hopefully you find this extra information useful?

If you require any further information or further suggestions please let us know

Best regards,

Martin Dowling

This module provides alerts, restoration of files and well much more.  I wrote this originally for ps1.4 now team maintains but it's pretty special.

I install this on every client shop so we know when a file has been changed, added or deleted and you can commit or restore files.
