image sizes don't work

Hi,

i just made a fresh install of prestashop 1.7. I changed the sizes of the images, i don't want square images but rectangles 3:2.
I also regenerated the thumbnails, but it seems that i still get a square field on my home and category page that shows a rectangle picture. Can i change this? it does not look nice to see my images with a white border above and below (see image).

PS. Is it still possible to change the number of items in every row on the home and category pages?

Square images is by default. As far as i know you cant change it. Is such cases you could only change image background color ( to white ), thats fit to your theme either theme product image background color to, in that case black.

My images are all black, so how would you change the color of the box on home and category pages?

Thats defined as part of the theme - you can adjust it by changing the boxes in your custom.css file - CSS knowlegde would be required
