Will Prestashop credit a sale to affiliate/referrer days after first visit?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I want to use the module Stats- Referrers (Prestashop 1.3.6) to track visits and sales coming from different websites (affiliates of my shop). I receive technical questions from affiliate regarding how Prestashop tracks the traffic. I have no idea and having a hard time finding the answer (can't find documentation nor forum topics on this). Does someone know:

- what trackingmethods does Prestashop use to determine the origin of traffic?

In the backend I just enter the 'http_referrer' field (e.g. filiateA.com%) and I see in the stats the traffic from affiliateA.com
But the affiliate wants to know the actual technique used. Does Prestashop use fingerprints,..?

- does Prestashop use cookies to identify the origin of the visitor, if so, what is the cookie time?

E.g. if a visitior from affiliateA.com visits my site and doesn't buy something immediately, but say 5 days later, will this still show up in the stats? Can I change this cookie time to e.g. 14 days?

- if no cookies are used, how are the stats (registrations, sales, etc) being made? Will it only capture traffic of visitors who buy something immediately during the same session?

If this last part is true, I will have a hard time explaining it to my affiliate :(

Any help on this is much appreciated!!!

I did some testing and found:

- Prestashop uses cookies
- sales is credited to affiliate even when visitor closes browser and returns afterwards to purchase. Cookie is set to expire in 6 months! Meaning if visitor returns in 6 months, the affiliate still get the credit. Not desirable. More common to set to 14 or 30 days.
- when more affiliates are used, the same sale will be credited to all affiliates! This is not how it should be (a sale should only be credited once to an affiliate. Otherwise you end up rewarding all the affiliates for just one sale).

It is common to credit the sale to the last affiliate through which site the visitor came in last before he makes the purchase (based on last cookie-acount). Looks like improvement points for Prestashop...
