Mail notification on new customer registration

Hi!
Im running 1.7.7.8 in b2b mode. I require a manual activation for new customers, so it would be helpful a mail notification rather than check the backoffice for new customers constantly. I have tried using a module but my server configuration doesn't work well with php email, I'm using smtp for customer mails and I think the module doesn't work well with that.

Anyone knows a method for setting a mail notifiaction up for new registrations the same way that new orders?
