lasseboy
Hey! Wondering if I can get tips on what's best for me. I have PS 1.6.1.24, would like to upgrade it but if I get it right I can not run a One Click upgrade. So the choice is a new installation? Or is there any open webshop that I can move everything to and it would work. I mean immigrate everything from PS to any other Webshop? Thanks for all help! ComGrafPL
If you can't upgrade. Install backup module. Create a full backup, install the latest clean PS version and import backup.
lasseboy
Thanks! Dont i need to fix all modules or do they work in 1.7? Is this the back up module? https://addons.prestashop.com/en/data-migration-backup/21347-database-auto-backup.html

lasseboy
Did I understood you correctly, first I do a clean installation of PS 1.7 then I run the backup from my old 1.6.1.24 PS in the new installation. DB separately and ftp separately? Will all modules and everything work then?

Best way and safe way is to make clean 1.7 install ( on other domain / sub domain ) Make a backup of your store and do a test import to new created 1.7. If everything goes fine, do the same on the original domain.

musicmaster
I don't get this discussion. You can upgrade from 1.6 to 1.7 with 1-click. 1.6 modules don't run under 1.7 (except for a very small number).

Yes, you misunderstood me. 1-click upgrade usually works. When it doesn't there can be many causes. But only a few modules an cause such problems. The problem is immediately after the upgrade. The upgrade itself may have been successful but such modules can cause the front or the backoffice to malfunction or to crash. For that reason the recommended approach is to remove (uninstall and delete) all non-Prestashop modules before you start the upgrade.

lwadden
Did you get it to work? I'm attempting to upgrade from 1.6.24.1 to 1.7.7.7 and am quite worried!

To be honest. Best way to upgrade in my opinion is. Install 1.7.7.7 on test domain. Re-create theme there. Use i.e Migrate 4.0 module, that transfer all data from source shop. Install needed modules. After all done, transfer 1.7.7.7 to your source domain.
lwadden
It is absurd that there is no clear way to update without an expensive module.

You can use 1-click. You can use Copy_Shopdata. The only thing you needs to keep in mind is that 1.6 modules and themes usually don't work on 1.7. And that upgrading is a error prone process: so you need to make a backup.
