(SOLVED) there are no products

I have read loads about this on the forum, however the work arounds editing the category.tpl do not work for me.

It seems whatever I change in this file is ignored, for example I changed the line

{if $nb_products == 0}{l s='There are no products.'}

To

{if $nb_products == 0}{l s='Please select a category below.'}

I commented out the entire section with {* *} still no joy.

Whatever I do 'There are no products' still shows next to the category name in the top bar.
and this makes me ask where does it get the sentence 'There are no products' from, considering I changed then deleted the line that produces it.

I even went into Admin/tools/Translations and changed the line inthe catergories section to Please Select A Category Below, but all with the same result.

I have searched the database to try and find where these 'translations' are kept but could not find them anywhere.

I'm stuck and wonder is there another php file thats controlling things??

when you change a TPL, you need to clear the cache in the smarty folder. You can use our module clear smarty, that clear the cache so you can see the changes in the tpl

SOLVED:
Thank you so much for the pointer, I did not use the mod but went preferences/force compile to clear it. Which I had spotted in another thread, works a treat now
