redirect non www to www, good front end, no good backend

Hello,  

 

I realise this has probably been adressed before.  In wanting to have my site www and non www  I added the www in front of my domain under Parameters -->  SEO --> URL of the shop.   This is giving me a HTTP 500 error for accessing my admin but is doing as it should for the frontend.  What might I be missing here?  And also as I can't access the admin because of this,  where would I find a file to modify using ftp or the right database using phpMyAdmin to undo my error?

Hi!

No I wasn't en either www or non www. I think I have resolved it though.  I used a backup to refresh the site.  I think what was missing was rewriting wasn't turned on (config of URL section )  BEFORE making the addition of www in the  URL of the shop section.  I now have www for my domain and just for added happiness access to the backend as well
