Permission denied for ajax-cart.js

I followed the thread here for a solution but it did not work.

With SSL enabled I always get this error in IE7 and IE8:

This bug is supposed to be fixed in version 1.3 but I am still using 1.2.5 and upgrading is not an option at the moment.

Can I just replace the block cart module with the 1.3 one? Will it work?
