TinyMCE (WYSIWYG) editor missing on product pages

Hello,

I was going to edit a product today and realized that the TinyMCE WYSIWYG editor was missing. There was just a naked text area and the text formatting was presented in html code.

I checked category and CMS pages for the same problem, but the editor is still available there so the problem appears to be specific to product pages.

I have searched the forum for answers but couldn't find any so that's why I'm writing here now. I would be really grateful for any help that could lead to the issue being resolved.

Best regards,

Robin

Did you buy an addon TinyMCE? I got the one from MyPresta as an addon. You could try reinstalling the editor.

Thank you musicmaster and pinwheel for your input!

Strangely enough the editor suddenly appeared again and I can't see what has changed as I'm using the same web browser on the same computer on the same network and I haven't changed anything on the local system or performed any upgrades, at least that I'm aware of. Neither have I changed anything on the server or in the Prestashop settings.

Pinwheel: No, I haven't bought he TinyMCE addon from MyPresta but perhaps I should? I guess there must be some advantage compared to the built in editor?

Musicmaster: Although the issue appears to be resolved (by itself) I would appreciate if you could elaborate a bit on the javascript error, just in case the problem appears again or in case someone else run into the same or similar problems. Perhaps it's a silly question but I'm wondering what could be causing a javascript error and how you generally go about resolving such a problem.

You might want to check the one out that Mypresta sells. I purchased theirs as the features are much better. I found the prestashop one rather limited. I also have had no problems with his addon.

Possibly something on your server was having problems. You could ask your hosting agent if anything had changed the last few days. Strange that it fixed itself for sure.

There is little to elaborate. Filling the textbox with the TinyMCE menu and formatting is done by javascript. So if there is anything else on the page that causes javascript errors your javascript crashes and the TinyMCE routines won't be executed.

Hi Roboy, may I ask you where you find the WYSIWYG editor, please?

I am in the (drawn out) process of changing my site from 1.5.3.1 to 1.7.7.2 and although the editor was clearly present in "Modules>Positions" in 1.5 I have been unable to find it in 1.7.7.2.

Frankly, I'm finding the latest PS user unfriendly in many ways - 1.5 seemed much more intuitive.

Cheers

Bob

I don't believe there is one in 1.7. I had to buy the module from mypresta to have one. The current editor in 1.7 is basic and very limiting I found.

Yes, that is what I thought.  When I started using PS 7 years ago on 1.5.3 I found it great - I found it relatively straightforward to use, the module layout in the BO was clear and made perfect sense.  The "positions" had a tool whereby you could visually see where the blocks and hooks were and could physically pick them up and move them.  I find PS 1.7.7.2 totally confusing and not user friendly.  You have to be prepared to pay or be very comfortable with php and HTML to manage your site and they don't answer questions any more.  Like all things these days it starts out as a great idea and then turns into just a money generator.

I have asked twice now why there is a price difference between the headline price of modules and the amount when it is in your cart. e.g. Migration Pro £156.99 (Zen Option) changes to £159.99 in cart plus VAT which HMRC stated on the phone to me that EU companies should not be adding to UK Company invoices (I was importing from Poland and needed clarification).

End of rant - good luck guys!

I totally agree. Prestashop used to be better. I still think the platform can be saved though and thrive again. Core team just need to open their eyes, go back to the roots and start thinking long term! Announce your new approach through as many channels as possible and start rebuilding the community.

The basic principle of Prestashop as an open source platform that you are able to host and control on your own, thus having total control as merchant, is brilliant. I wouldn't want to get locked up, loose control and get ripped off at Shopify.

I have the answer on the price difference - apparently there is a "glitch" in Prestashop site regarding the handling of GBP - which is pretty damn bad as far as I am concerned and if it was the UK I would be reporting to Trading Standards.  If you switch to Euros (the setting is way down at the bottom of the page where you click to purchase - there is a choice of Euro/dollars/GBP) the additional amount is NOT added and also the product appears cheaper!  I'm not blaming Brexit or anything but it certainly appears a bit naughty to me!

This answer has come from another source - Prestashop still have not responded to my query so, as with so many other things, they obviously don't give a ****! (insert expletive of your choice)

I was/am a huge fan of Prestashop since I came across it 8 years ago when I needed to build a web-site for my new business venture and I'm now on my 4th but I'm not enjoying it this time not one little bit.  Totally agree with your last para, I purchased a company with a Wix site - it was a nightmare just trying to get "my" pictures  out of them.
