Update PS from 1.6.1.23 to 1.7.2.2 with PHP from 7.1 to 7.4

Hi all

Any pointer on what to expect on a theme update az_focus, currently on 1.6.1.23 when updating to 1.7.2.2?

Our plan is the copy the entire public_html Domain content of one domain to another domain folder and which will have a php set up of 7.4. Using the same database as the 1.6.1.23 version. Actually the only difference on domain set up is the extension. Same company is the owner and uses the testdomain as a redirect.

Will that work?

What is the most painless update procedure for the site?

We know some php programing changes can be made.

How much time did you spend studying this?

Prestashop 1.7.2 is not recommended with a PHP version higher than 7.1. Even the latest PS version should not be run with a PHP version higher than 7.3.

Running PS 1.7.2 with a 1.6.1 database will not work.

Updating between 1.6 and 1.7 should be done with the theme set to default.

There are many options for updating. But the potential for trouble is considerable. So you better prepare well.

that explains why PS not renamed the admin folder most likely as I tried to install it on a VPS for testing.

How High can I go on 1.6.4 something in php?

1.6.1.24 is the last release in the 1.6 range.

One alternative is Thirty Bees - a Prestashop clone that is compatible with Prestashop 1.6 and that can run under PHP 7.4.

Another is to use data migration or to use my tool Copy_shopdata.

BTW: I have no idea why you want to go to PS 1.7.2 when 1.7.7 is the latest version.

The client wishes to have the site updated. As he worked with a bunch of careless developers, there are a lot of issues we would like to correct when done.

Prestool is required for the copyshop softw.??
