[Solved] How to import features and values by csv?

Recommended Posts

If i create a feature called "weight" with a value of "200g", plus 3 or more features with more values, and i would like to know, is it possible to csv import all features and values for each product? If so how?

My plan is to give multiple features for each product and then get a module that allows my customers to filter my products by features and values.

Example:
Item 1:
(Feature) Weight: (Value) 500g
(Feature) Height: (Value) 30cm
(Feature) Material: (Value) Plastic
(Feature) Brand: (Value) Brand 1

My problem is that i have 1000+ products and it would take forever to upload them and then add the multiple features and values to each of them.
So if there is a solution, preferably for free, please let me know.

Thank you for your time.

Hi,

did you manage to get a solution on your issue.... i am also struggling on this.

if you found solution please update

thanks,
om

I did ! here's how.
On your csv/excel file you make a column for each feature you want to import.
Then on the BackOffice with the csv import tool, when you are selecting wich column matches with the presta column titles,
for each feature you want you select feature, from the BO dropdown menu, and a blank box will appear below with a "OK" button.
You simply type the feature name for that column (same as the one you created on your csz/excel file, and press "ok".
Then you just do the same for every other feature you want.
And thats it.

thanks Monji for your reply....

sorry Monji, i think i asked inappropriatly.

i know those options actually, i have prepared csv file and in the feature column, its like this

feature
"Image device;1/4 CMOS,Pixels;310,000,White Balance ;Auto,Exposure mode; Auto"

so instead you suggest following thing
feature;feature;feature
"Image device;1/4 CMOS";"Pixels;310,000";"White Balance ;Auto,Exposure mode; Auto"

please suggest if i did not get your message. Also, please share the file if you have prepared for your purpose. I highly appreciate your help.

Look forward to hearing from you.

thanks

You need 1 column in your csv for each feature.

Ex:.

Image device|Pixels |White Balance| -----> These are column headers
1/4 CMOS |310,000 |Auto | -----> These are the values for each feature

Did that help?

thanks for your reply,

i have one more question... before i try your suggestion.

will it create new feature in the features table....if i am skipping 1st row then it will skip column headers
i.e. image device|Pixels|White Balance ----> whole header.

if it skips the header as my csv file's 1st row willbe all headers.. from ID -> Feature (image device, pixel, white balance, etc)

what should you suggest in that case? as i don't want to create whole feature list manually, otherwise what is the point of import function.

look forward to hearing from you.

thanks a lot for your quick response.

Thats just because you did't press te "OK" button next to the features.
EX:.
You typed "Pixels", below "Feature" column" but didn't press "OK"
When you press "OK" the cell that says feature will disappear. instead you get the feature you typed.

EDIT: I didn't realize until now, i didn't send you the message about the "ok" i wrote yesterday. I had internet problems and thats why you didn't receive it.

Anyway let me know how it goes.

Dear Monji,

thanks for your reply.

Right, i did try that once...just to see what happens but at that time i had a funny feeling why it removing original field value and repalces with what i have typed.... I was afraid so i did not do any thing... and was looking for other alternatives....

i will try the way you have suggested and will update you later in the evening after work.

i am very thankful of you.

om

No problem.
I do suggest, staring the import with 1 or 2 products only just to see if everything works fine.
As always, before you change anything major in Presta, be sure to make a database backup for safety.

Regards.

Hi Monji,

Using CSV file i found it more tedious, as its difficult to change value of feature while importing. Also, all the products are different and have different features.

I was wondering that if you know any alternative to this like if i could upload into editor and then format. Also, may be possible to get rid off the datasheet and place it into that additional tab. i think its the best to upload and manage fetures.

I look forward to hearing from you

thanks
om

i would recommend, that you take a look at Kjelds (Presta-dyr) module, fast import

He is working on the module to make it possible to import features by columns like this:

"color:black" which solves the problem with "hardcoding" a featurename

i actually just requested this today from him ;-)

if he gets it done, there is a high possibility for it to be included in the next version of the module...
of course i don't know this for sure, but i think so.

anyways, his module as it is, is very comprehensive and is lightyears better than any other import modules out there.

there is a big manual included with the module which explains how the different settings work.

have a closer look here:

I already told you how and you said you did it correctly!
It is tedious, but hey, it's free!
For features, i'm affraid you will always have to do it that way, even if you buy a csv import module.

Hi Monji,

I used a fast reply.

well,
my query is about grouping features. as the products which i am trying to promote they have vast number of features and they are categorised in the different groups.

for example
PC system minimum requirements
Operating system: Windows 2000/XP/Vista/Windows 7/Windows 7
Processor: Intel Pentium III, 800MHz or Higher
Memory: 128MB RAM Minimum
Web browser: Most browsers supported. Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, Chrome.

Mac system minimum requirements
Operating system: Mac OSX 10.4 Tiger
Processor: 800MHz - PowerPC G4 or Intel
Memory: 128Mb RAM (256Mb or higher recommended)
Web browser: Safari, Mozilla Firefox, Chrome. Most browsers supported

so, i would like to group them, also if could display them with bit of formatting. I hope this helps.

look forward to hearing from you.

thanks
om

hi, Monji, I noticed you use 1.3 version. Does your way work for Prestashop 1.4.6.2?

First I'd like to thank Monji for sharing his experience with us. It has helped me start my import of product Features of which I think the Prestashop team need to add some documentation for.

What I have noticed is that doing it this way puts the features in as a Customised value instead of being a Pre-define value. (See attached).

This means that my Layered navigation module cannot pickup the Features to use for filters.

Anyone else notice this?

I'm using Prestashop 1.4.7.0
