Bulk delete categories - extremely slow!! Any fix??

I made a mistake with categories, now I have around 1000 categories which i need to delete.

I tried mass deleting them (100 at a time) got a big error 500 and the server took around half an hour to come back...

So what I can do now without getting an error is to delete 4 at a time, I calculated it takes around 10 seconds to delete a category, which is ridiculous!! 😓 I'm losing so much time doing this.

 

Any quick fix for this? Any temporary configuration to do this and then go back to the normal config? Any trick?
