atwitz3nd
Hi, Can anyone help my poor brain.I'm struggling to understand the shipping and handling fees thang.I sell handmade baby hats. I only want to sell to the UK at the moment and want to use the standard royal mail 1st class service. The hats come in a 15x15x15cm box and the final product weighs about 120 gramsSo, basically I'm guessing I go through the 'Royal Mail postage tariffs' leaflet and enter all their weight ranges in the "shipping>>weight ranges >> section in my BO - Correct? What confuses me tho is, do I simply add the postage costs stated in the Royal Mail leaflet, or do I use this figure as a base and then add 'my packaging' charges to this amount for each relavant weight range?or would 'my packaging' costs (£1) be regarded as 'handling fees'Can someone clarify this for me, as I am uncertain what i should be doing. Thanks very much. Dave L
The way your shipping costs are made up and what/how you charge for them is your choice. As I see it you could have a handling fee set up in shipping or you could leave that at zero and increase your product price to include your handling charge. If you are not looking to mark up the cost of shipping then yes, look at your carriers weight ranges and base yours on the same.
Peter Phelan
I only use Royal Mail for delivery in the UK and worldwide, so what I have done is use the Royal Mail charge and then add a small amount to cover my packing and then use that as my "all in" charge. You can check the Royal Mail postage costs for all services on line; just enter the weight, service etc and it will show you their standard charges.See http://sg.royalmail.com/portal/rm/PriceFinder?catId=23500532&gear=pricingcalcPeter
atwitz3nd
Thank you for your replies, and for the link peter. That's pretty much what i have done. I also found the additional handling charges per product which will cover the 'hat box' which is only relavant to hats and not other products. So that's all good. Thanks again,
