 Cannot change or modify any product info,  it will not save and will not update to a newer version.

 Thought at first it was a chmod issue nut that does not seem to be the case, the issue has only happend recently, have also cleared the cash.

All files permission = 644

I don't want to scare me, but it's quite possible that the site was attacked by hackers.

This is very likely with Prestashop 1.6.

Yes that is what has happened site hacked 😪

There is no point in fixing it.
Make a backup of the FTP and database, download it to your computer and install a higher version 1.6, eg 1.6.1.24.
Then it's up to a good programmer to recover the data (products, cms pages, categories, orders ...).
Not only modules can be hacked, but files in classes or controllers folders.
Finding all modified, hacked files is time consuming.
A really clean installation is faster.
