MultiStore > Add a New Shop > public_html/ > BLANK

Greetings forum members.

I am so stuck and desperately need your help with my MultiStore setup.  FYI:  I am using version 1.7.6.7

1. So I created my first shop > enabled the MultiStore option > Add a New Shop .  Followed the instructions exactly as shown here:  http://doc.prestashop.com/display/PS17/Creating+a+new+shop
2. I then set up my shop's URL.  Followed the instructions exactly as shown here:  http://doc.prestashop.com/display/PS17/Setting+a+shop%27s+URL
3. Then I checked the URL and there is nothing!  Just a 404
4. To be on the safe side, I increased the allowed memory as per instructions here: https://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/edu/prestashop/blank-screen/
   
   BUT then I go 
5. cPanel>> file manager >> public_html/mydomain and there is nothing there!  The public_html/ is BLANK (just the cgi-bin folder) - please see screenshot attached.

What am I doing wrong?  Any suggestions?
