Which is safer?

So... my current PS is hacked by mailspam again. I need to install a fresh PS on my hosts server. But which is safer?

1. Unpack PS on my hosts server, set all rights (755,644) straight away and then build from there online, ór:

2. build a complete new PS offline with everything installed and then upload it via ftp, and thén set all rights (755,644).

Mostly I would recommend making a complete shop offline. That way you immediately have a backup too. However, some modules (mostly payment) are easier to install online.

Hi musicmaster,

i just did that. Made it completely from scratch offline and implemented the latest security module for protecting the website. My provider is happy now that the new site is running and the old infected one is deleted, it saves him a lot of malware traffic on the server.
