Awaiting for PayPal payment status after sale?

Ok so last Friday I finally updated my shop from 1.6.1.24 to 1.7.6.7 and after a few easily resolvable issues (main down to old modules causing problems - don't know why they aren't either overwritten or removed as part of the update) I am now left with one annoying problem.  From some reason when PayPal payments are made the order status is put into Awaiting Payment status and not Payment Received as is did in 1.6.1.24.  

My Payment Action is Sale - so it should default to Payment Received but it's not - is there any known reason why this would happen? 

Edit: Just to clarify - the payments are being received, there is no issue with the receipt of the payment in the PayPal account.

Facing the same issue with official PayPal module v5.7.1 on Prestashop v1.7.8.7.

Asked the developers of the module about it but no answer so far...
