DJFearRoss
How can I charge customers an extra fixed amount for back orders? We want to put an ETA on our website for out-of-stock items so customers can still order them. Getting a bit tired of customers emailing and asking for ETA's, also losing a few sales this way. So if delivery is say normally 10.00 , I want to charge them an additional 5.00 for ordering items that are out-of-stock, to cover extra delivery charges. To confirm, i don't want to split the delivery charges up based on the number of items they're ordering. I want a straight 5.00 added to their order.
Teemu Mäntynen
Interesting idea. At the moment my 'Ship in 3D' shipping module doesn't have such functionality build into it, but I might be interested in developing such new feature. The 'Ship in 3D' module already has similar functionality to add fixed extra cost if the order contains any number of fragile products or any number of dangerous products. And the module already has a feature to set a shipping method not available if stock quantity of any product of the order is below a set minimum limit. To answer your need, I'm thinking of the following additional new shipping method settings: If any product of the order is out of stock (ie. its available stock quantity minus cart quantity is zero or negative) add a fixed extra charge to shipping cost. You can find my module from here: https://addons.prestashop.com/en/shipping-carriers/48685-ship-in-3d.html Please let me know if you are interested. You don't need to commit yet in any way. Wait and see if the new feature is what you expect before making any purchase desisions. I'm hesitant to give any exact time estimation at the moment. I should be able to start the developent during next week. Development and testing takes it's time and then it'll take a few days to have the new module version to be accepted to PS Addon Marketplace. Thank you.
jeanluc.12
The solution you are looking for will require to keep track of the orders that have been shipped partially & make it difficult to manage the orders in back-office. You can use the Back in Stock Notification module to inform the customers about inventory replenishment. After getting the email alert customers can place their order.
DJFearRoss
Do you know where the documentation is for the Back Order feature on Prestashop 1.6? I would really really like to know how Prestashop handles these circumstances first?

Teemu Mäntynen
Just to quickly let everyone know that I added two new shipping method settings to the configuration of the Ship in 3D module. Backorder, fixed extra price Backorder, extra price percentage Fixed extra price setting is what was discussed above. Extra price percentage setting is similar, but instead of a fixed extra charge, this one enables the merchant to raise the total shipping price by this percentage if any product of an order has insufficient stock quantity thus necessitating a backorder. The new feature was added to module version 1.1.0 which I submitted to Addon Store a few minutes ago. It should be available in couple of days:https://addons.prestashop.com/en/shipping-carriers/48685-ship-in-3d.html A big thank you to @DJFearRoss for a great idea.
