Newsletter Module Configuration Prestashop 1.7.6.5

Hi I installed Prestashop and got it going so far. I configured the email server to use SMTP authentication and that works.  I get the test email from the Email configuration page.   Now when I try to sign-up for the newsletter I don't get any email from the form and no email data is stored in the Newsletter Registrations in the module.  How does the person know they are signing up for the newsletter when there is no confirmation page either on screen or in email?  So what am I missing on getting this to work?  Do I need to buy a module for every small thing I need to get done on Prestashop?
