Up-grade or Clean install

Hi - this is aimed at those who have already upgraded or perhaps clean installed and also the PS team.

We use 1.24 and perhaps should really think about changing to 1.4

We have looked at the upgrade requirements - but would also like to ask this important question.

Is it viable to - upload the new ps 1.4 into a sub directory say yourdomain.co.uk/testsite1-4

link to a new database (temp for now) to get PS to work (perhaps copy existing data base to new name whist checking goes on.

The reason I am asking is I can not see how all the changes need to be done without actually turning off the current site.

I am looking to do this in a switch off one site - rename directory - turn on new site by changing directory to orginal name.

in our case our site is hosted on keaygroup.co.uk/mdr and a second site on keaygroup.co.uk/wmc

please reply with your thoughts and ideas.
