Template editing.. A little confused

Recommended Posts

I figured since I am basically teaching myself prestashop by trying to make a prestashop cartlook exactly like one that I made in oscommerce, this would be relatively easy, but I am really confused right now.

I completely understand how the basic file structure works and how to work with php / hooks and html / css. I know I can do a lot of stuff with CSS as far as making it look entirely different, but I want to learn how to change the theme core just so that I can learn.

What has me confused is that no matter what changes I made with the .tpl files, nothing changes!! For instance, I opened product.tpl so that I could remove the

tags from the product name and replace with a

Seemed simple enough - i found the html structure with the hook for the product name..

When i saved and refreshed my cart NOTHING changed!! I tried this on few other files as well and NOTHING!! WHat am I doing wrong? When I reopen the file the change is shown in the code, just not on my computer.

The other question I have is, what is the proper file to edit to completely customize the home page? Currently I am using the default template just to learn.

OH MY GOD I WAS RIGHT!!

I had to do some digging, but I was doing everything right, but Presta Shop has some crazy "smarty cache" system built in, which doesnt get cleared when you hold shift. Forcing the computer to re-download the template every time I refresh fixed the issue and NOW I can see my changes.

I am not crazy - i swear
