I just heard about PrestaShop. Ive spent a few short minutes on the website checking things out but I believe that learning from an actual person is much better. 

The thing is, I'm very seriously considering Shopify and I need someone to talk me out of it. 

What I'm looking for :

 

A Shopify / PrestaShop comparison, and 

Why should I choose PrestaShop

The use of a software is very individual. You should try it out by yourself and check if the software meets your requirements or not.

Perhaps you will find over the net comparison charts. Here in the forum you will get only COMMUNITY support for problems related to Prestashop. And like for each other open source software: it is learning by doing.

Prestashop just like any cms can be configured to sell online. But the prestashop differential:
1.- First you have a very stable community.
2.- Second, it is clearly focused on electronic commerce and much more.
3.- Third, it is not a variation or a plugin of anything, it is clearly ecommerce.

It has a large number of modules that you can adapt to your need with the sale to the customer or the business.
And much more it is open source and you can modify what you want to pleasure.

I personally have 10 online stores with prestashop from version 1.4 to 1.7, and I recommend it long before I shopify.
