A couple of quick newbie questions httpdocs and deleting readme files

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've had a look around the forum and can't find answers to these questions, so I thought I'd ask, just to check I was doing ok so far, as I'm totally new to all this :)

1 - My host has written on their website that when you are uploading files from FTP then you need to:

# Upload files and directories that should be accessible through HTTP protocol to the httpdocs directory, and files/directories that should be transferred securely over SSL protocol to the httpsdocs directory.
# Place your CGI scripts into the cgi-bin directory.

How do you know which prestashop files need to go where, or do they all just go into httpdocs? - I'm keeping my fingers crossed they all go in httpdocs, as that's what I did.

2 - Once installation is done, it says to do several things, one of which is to delete 3 readme files, I've done that, but when I was doing it I noticed that there were 2 more files that looked the same, but were not listed as needing to be deleted (readme_de.txt and readme_it.txt), I just wanted to check that they didn't need to be deleted as well?

Thanks in advance :)

For your first question, I think it is better to ask your service provider to make sure.
Because it depends on the hosting service provider. Some use www, some use httphtml, and some use httpddocs.
But if you have make your site work correctly, it mean you have transferred to the right place.

For your question 2, I don't know why we need to remove the readme files. It should not affect your site running.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply, it's much appreciated :)

1 - I did think about asking the host, but I didn't think they would know what types of files the Prestashop ones were, so thought it better to ask here first. The host had said certain types of files need to go in one place and others in another, I didn't know if I had to split the Prestashop files up, and put some of them in one folder and some in another if that makes sense. The site is working though, so from what you've said I've done it right yay!!!

2 - I think I'll just leave the other 2 readme files there then.

Thank you again :)
