HELP about using and migrate old installation in a new domain

Hello.
I installed and now manage a prestashop e-commerce, fully functional and optimized version 1.3.1. This cost me a lot of time working because I installed and customized many additional modules and made many remarkable optimizations / changes to the template.
Now I should start selling a different product line, similar to previous, but obviously on a different domain, I would understand how can copy the old site and just make some changes ( deleting old items/customers/orderd ) without having to redo everything from scratch.
There is some previous post that explains how? Or is there some advice fast?
I think : 1 - backup and import database on new server, copy and paste all dirs paying attention to permission, change shop name/email, deleting old items/customers/orders re-create sitemap...there's something else to pay attention ?
I understand that it would be better to start from scratch with the 1.4, but this new product line does not convince me, and I'm not going to throw the unnecessary time only for testing for some weeks commercial interest in a new product line.

what you mentioned is pretty much you have to do. if only move change domain it is easy.
if database server is changed, DB server also should be changed.
(of course if you chnaged db name, db user/pass is the same)

its better to keep old one running for while before confirm that everything is OK at new domain.

I was trying to do the same with latest version i've downloaded today.
I started workin on local computer with wamp server on the various cutomizations i need to do...

Then i uploaded all things on remote server, mysql db, changed config file, yet it continued saying that it was unable to retrive the select...comething like that...

now i've re'installed on remote from skrach but if i modify for example the header.tpl i cant see results on the website.
I've even added a new module simpleslideshow on to top of pages but again no change on the website...

Any suggestions ?

Is there any guide on how to migrate prestashop from local to remote server ? It seems hard 4 me to believe that its so hard to migrate it...or make customizations...

PS: on local machine i've noticed that every modification i was doing, i must delete all files in tools/smarty/compile/ and only after that i could see changes on front end...IT'S THAT WRIGHT ? OR AM I DOING SOMETHING WRONG??? PLEASE HELP...
