SOLVED Having problems with htaccess file generation

Hi, I'm new here and slowly working my way through the Prestashop 1.3 Beginners Guide.

In order to get friendly URL's I have inserted a .htaccess file but when I then go to the Tools - Generators page, the button to 'generate .htaccess file' does not appear.

I am wondering if I have put the .htaccess file in the correct place /public_html/Prestashop/??

Can someone help please - thanks.

please make sure
1. the file name is correct
2. you have set correct permission as specified 666
3. you have enabled "Friendly URL" at "Preference" Tab

I saved a blank Notepad document as .htaccess and transferred to the Prestashop file
I changed the file permissions to numerical value 666
I enabled Friendly URL's through the Preferences tab

Can you offer any further advice?

which version of PrestaShop is your store?
and what is the hosting environment(windows/Linux?)

I saved a blank Notepad document as .htaccess

make sure there is no ".txt" appended to the file name, sometime windows does this.

I removed the .txt from the file name and it worked! Thanks so much for your help.
