Prestashop cache system, it works?

Hi!

I'm managing a shop where products have hundreds of combinations, so website navigation is pretty slow.

Of course, I have already activated template cache and also CSS & JS caches. But it doesn't help too much.

I saw there is another cache feature (at the bottom of the perfomance page), but it requieres some PHP extensions installed at the server (Memcache, APC or Xcache).

Have someone tried this feature? It works and really speeds site navigation? If so, what's the best PHP extension to get it working?

In case it doesn't improve speed enought, do you know some good module or any other method for speed up the site navigation? (frontend). Remember: products have a lot of combinations...
