[SOLVED] 1.4 No emails

Have tried PHP and SMTP and can't get emails to work.
With PHP Mail settings everything looks like its working using BO test email and FO contact form but I recieve nothing.
With SMTP (using the settings I use in Outlook) I get 'X Error please check your configuration' when trying the test email in BO and 'There is 1 error : An error occurred while sending message' in FO contact form.

edit:
Fixed half the problem - changed the contact email under preferences in the BO to [email protected] and set to PHP mail & now test emails work ok but..
...still not receiving emails using the contact form in FO. Seems to go through ok and I get a confirmation that the message as been sent but still not receiving the emails.
I'll work on that one and post if I solve it, in the meantime any ideas gratefully received.
